Mission
Statement
The Mains
Way to learn English is a private
international English language school dedicated to offering students a
unique Canadian cultural experience in a safe, home-based environment.
We provide quality
language-learning experiences, through a combination of small classes,
stimulating recreational activities and quality instructors.
Programs
The school offers individualized and group instruction in TOEFL (Test
of English as a Foreign Language) English as a Second Language,
Business English and Tourism English.
Students requiring homestay for a minimum of one week will be placed
upon receipt of placement fee. Homestay fees will be separate from
tuition fees.
Instructor Qualifications
Teachers will hold a minimum of a TESOL (Teaching English to
Speakers of other Languages) or TOEFL certificate.
Student Fees
Instructional fees are specified on our tuition page. All fees
are payable one week prior to commencement of the course.
Prepaid fees will cover a four - twelve week period of study.
Students are also required upon payment of fees, a registration fee
and book fee as specified on our tuition page.
Admission Requirements
All students are required to obtain a valid passport, visa,
currency and insurance prior to arriving at our school.
It is recommended that students preparing for their TOEFL
examination have attained a level of English Proficiency, that will
facilitate meeting the required test score for admission to a specific
educational institution.
Homework Requirements
Homework assignments will be assigned to enrolled students to
facilitate their learning. The weekly homework assignments will not
exceed the weekly instruction time for the course.
Absences and Public Holidays
No refunds or course extension will be given for days a student
is absent during the course. Courses will not be held on Canadian
public holidays (approximately once a month).
Disputes and their Resolutions
Any student with a dispute must bring it to the attention of the
instructor or David or Dianne Mains. It should be done in the following
manner:
1. Advise the teacher of the problem. If no solution is found after 48
hours..........
2. Bring the problem to David or Dianne Mains. A meeting with the
Teacher and student and either David or Dianne will be arranged. A
student may bring along a peer to assist with his/her dispute or to
simply translate.
3. Any disputes must be kept in writing by the school.
Dismissal Policy
A student will be dismissed from the school for the following
reasons:
1. Physical aggression: Students must not be in possession of any
weapons, including but not limited to firearms; must not use any object
to threaten or intimidate another person; must not cause injury to any
person with any object. School members must not inflict or encourage
others to inflict bodily harm on another person.
2. Students must not be in possession of any illegal drugs.
3. Students must not conduct illegal activities while on the premises.
4. Vandalism causing extensive damage to school property.
Mandatory consequences
As well as being dismissed, police will be involved if a student
is involved:
1. In possession of a weapon.
2. Trafficking in drugs or weapons
3. In robbery
4. Use of a weapon to cause bodily harm or to threaten serious harm.
5. Physical assault causing bodily harm requiring medical treatment.
6. Sexual assault
Refund Policy for International Students
An international student is a person who is not a Canadian
citizen or a landed immigrant or who has been determined under the
Immigration Act to be a Convention Refugee.
Student Authorization Related Withdrawals
1) The Mains Way will retain the lesser of 25% of the total fees
due under the contract or $200 by international students who:
(a) are denied authorization from Citizenship and Immigration, or
(b) Do not receive authorization prior to the start of the program of
study, provided that
(I) the student notifies The Mains Way to Learn English of the circumstances
in subsection (1a) or (1b) on or before the first day of a program of
study is scheduled to begin and
(ii) the student, within a reasonable time, provides documentation of
the circumstances in subsection (1a) or (1b) to The Mains Way to Learn
English.
Non-student Authorization Related Withdrawals
2) (a) If written notice of withdrawal is received by the
institution less than seven (7) calendar days after the contract is
made and before the program starts, The Mains Way to Learn English may
retain the lesser of: 25% of the total fees due under the contract or
$400
(b) Subject to subsection (2a), if written notice of withdrawal is
received by The Mains Way to Learn English thirty(30) calendar days or
more before the start of a program of study, the institution may retain
25% of the total fees under the contract
(c ) Subject to subsection (2a), if written notice of withdrawal is
received by the institution less than three (3) calendar days before
the start of a program of study, The Mains Way to Learn English will
retain 40% of the total fees due under the contract.
Refunds after the program of study starts:
3) (a) If written notice of withdrawal is received by the
institution, or a student is dismissed within 10% of the program of
study duration, The Mains Way to Learn English may retain 50% of the
total fees due under the contract.
(b) If written notice of withdrawal is received by the institution, or
a student is dismissed after 10% and before 30% of a program of study,
The Mains Way to Learn English may retain 70% of the total fees due
under the contract
(c ) If a student withdraws or is dismissed after 30% of the program of
study's duration no refund is required.
